NIVEA SA Launch: A Day of Art with Sibambo Portraits
As a visual artist, there are some opportunities that you simply cannot pass up. And being a guest artist for NIVEA South Africa's launch of their first products for black people was definitely one of those opportunities for me.
I had the pleasure of teaching a group of enthusiastic people how to draw in just 20 minutes. It was definitely a challenge, but seeing everyone participate and have fun made it all worth it. Not only did I get to meet some amazing people, but I also captured some great moments that I will cherish forever.
I am so grateful to Lindiwe from DNA Brand Architects for selecting me out of thousands of talented artists in the country. And, of course, I have to thank God, my fans and my family for always believing in me and supporting me in my artistic journey.
One of the highlights of the event was a commissioned #pendrawing that I created for the client, NIVEA South Africa. It was an honour to present this piece to Snaenay, but I have to admit that it was also a bit of a strange request from DNA Brand Architects. The subject matter was definitely out of my norm - three candles with bare female torsos. But the idea behind it was powerful - celebrating our rich melanin also means being confident in our bodies and our skin. We come in all shapes and sizes, which is something to celebrate.
Overall, this was an unforgettable experience for me. It was my first time speaking in front of such a large crowd, and I am so grateful for the opportunity. Thank you, NIVEA South Africa, for including me in this historic launch, and thank you to everyone who made this event possible. I can't wait to see what the future holds!
